The worst thing about ants as a pest is they can be so hard to see. These little pests can do a lot of damage and not even be recognized. Carpenter ants can be a major problem because they make a living in the woody parts of your home, and can weaken the structure of the home. The good news is that there are a few different things that you can do to win the battle against ants. Here are just three different methods to help you prevent or kill the ant problem that can cause so much damage.

Poison

Many people try to kill the ants with a spray or a poison that kills on contact. The problem with this type of poison is that it does not kill the entire colony, and will only kill some of the worker ants. If you really want to get rid of the ant problem in your home, you need to use a poison that ants take back to the queen. This type of poison is extremely effective in battling ants. So, after you have put down the poison do everything you can to stay away from the ants, and let them take the poison back to the queen.

Clean

One of the most important things that you can do to battle ants is keep you home extremely clean. Most ants are looking for either shelter or food, and if you are using a good cleaning agent, the ants will want to stay away from the home. Be sure that you pay special attention to the kitchen cupboards and pantries to eliminate all loose food items. You should also use a very strong cleaning agent with a small amount of ammonia to erase the scent trails that the ants leave behind.

Professional Pest Control

If the ant problem is too advanced then you may be better served by calling a professional pest control service. The professionals have gone through extensive training in how to properly and safely handle the chemical, but also how to get rid of particular bugs. If it is ants that are causing so much trouble, they will be able to use their knowledge of ants to properly dispose of the entire colony. Perhaps the best part about a pest control company is that they have a reputation to uphold and so they want to do a great job on your home.
