Three Clues You May Have A Bed Bug Problem In Your Home

Posted on: 20 April 2018

Bed bugs are a menace, and just thinking about them makes many people cringe. But if you have never had a bed bug problem, you may not know what to expect. Many people have bed bugs and don't realize it until they have multiplied to the point that it has become a major infestation. Although you may need a professional to determine if you have a bed bug problem, there are clues that you can look for, including the following.

A sudden awareness of itching

Bed bug bites are similar to mosquito bites. Bed bugs take a small amount of blood from you as food. The result, like a mosquito bite, is that you may have an itch. Sometimes there will be a small red dot similar to a mosquito bite, but this isn't always true. It depends upon an individual's reaction to the bite. However, if you experience an itch that has recently developed, it is possible that it is a bed bug. The key is an itching problem that doesn't go away. Although the first itch will go away, you are likely to have another itch in different area. Other people in your home may experience itching as well. Bed bugs may be found where people sleep or sit, so people who share beds, couches and chairs may also get bitten.

Small black dots may appear

Although bed bugs are difficult to find, they leave behind fecal matter after they have digested their food. This appears as small, black dots and can be found on sheets and pillow cases. Although one or two black dots could be anything, you are looking for repetition. Once you have thoroughly cleaned your sheets and pillow cases, a couple of these dots will reappear, only in different areas than they were before.

You may see small white dots

These tiny round balls are smaller than a speck of sand and are not easily spotted, but if you are looking for bed bugs, you may see them. These may be bed bug eggs. Although bed bugs are difficult to find, their eggs are not as inconspicuous. They are not out in the open, but they are usually found more quickly than a bed bug. At first glance, the eggs may be mistaken for lint, but there are usually more than one, and they are not easily brushed away because they have a sticky substance on them.

If you suspect that you have bed bugs, you need to call a professional pest control company that has experience with these insects, like Pioneer Exterminating Company. A technician can do an inspection of your home to determine if they are present.
